Beyond the Walls: ALIADE LA MAIN DE COMPASSION's Outreach Efforts

While providing a safe haven for orphaned children is at the heart of ALIADE LA MAIN DE COMPASSION's mission, the organization's efforts extend far beyond the walls of their modest three-room home. In March 2021, even before the orphanage officially opened its doors, the team embarked on a bold outreach initiative to connect with some of society's most vulnerable members – street children.

On March 19, 2021, the orphanage's treasurer, Mr. Mulumba Mutombo Georges, led a team into the streets of the Matadi-Kibala quarter. Their goal was simple yet ambitious: to identify and engage with children living on the streets, known locally as "CHEGE," and explore ways to provide them with support and care.

The day was filled with poignant moments as team members sat down with nine street children, creating a safe space for them to share their stories. The reasons for their situation varied – some had been abandoned by their parents, others had lost their families to tragedy, and a few had been cast out due to accusations of witchcraft. Each story was unique, yet all were united by a common thread of hardship and resilience.

As the children opened up, the AVOC PLUS team offered words of encouragement and hope. They spoke of a future where these children could be cared for, educated, and given the chance to thrive. The event concluded with a shared meal, creating a sense of family and belonging that many of these children had long been denied.

This outreach event was more than just a fact-finding mission – it was a declaration of intent. ALIADE LA MAIN DE COMPASSION was announcing to the community that they were here to make a difference, one child at a time.

The success of this initial outreach led to further community engagement. In June 2022, the orphanage's leadership visited the urban-rural Musangu quarter, where they met with families struggling to care for orphaned children. This visit resulted in the partial integration of six more children into the orphanage's care system, showcasing the organization's commitment to flexible solutions that keep families connected while providing much-needed support.

As ALIADE LA MAIN DE COMPASSION continues to grow, these outreach efforts remain a crucial part of their work. They serve as a reminder that the need is great, but so too is the power of compassion and community in changing young lives.
